An elegant meal, jazz music in the background, fine wine, and engaging conversation, all on the company’s tab. Not a bad way to negotiate prices for fetal body parts. The more intact a twelve-week-old fetal skull is, the higher the price it fetches by medical research companies. Lower extremities and livers — like, wow — really pull in the big bucks.
In the video released by the Center for Medical Progress, Dr. Deborah Nucatola of Planned Parenthood explains, “I’d say a lot of people want liver,” then takes a huge bite of her garden salad. In the next video that the C.M.P. released, President of P.P.F.A. Medical Directors’ Council, Mary Gatter, lingers over her tall glass of iced tea and says, “I agree to figure out what others [facilities] are getting” to ensure that her compensation is “big enough to make it worthwhile to me.” What is the going rate for a fetal liver-thymus-brain-hemisphere combination?
Dinner discussions of selling fetal body parts, grisly as they are unappetizing, reflect the coarsening of modern culture and our desensitization to profanity, violence, and obscenity. We are reminded of the gruesome devaluing of human life by multiple murders, murderous gang initiations, sex slaves, beheadings, and abortions on demand.
The U.S. Supreme Court ruled in the 1973 Roe v. Wade case that women have a constitutional right to abortion before viability of the fetus. Imagery of wire-hanger abortions in alleyways provoked many Americans to support safe and legal abortion.
In the past forty-two years, 53 million legal abortions have occurred. In 2011, the number of legal abortions dropped to the 1973 level for the first time, whereby “twenty-one percent of all pregnancies (excluding miscarriages) ended in abortion,” according to a 2014 Guttmacher Institute report.
In a 2015 Gallup poll, half of respondents believe abortion is morally wrong, and without a compelling reason 70% oppose it; 19% believe abortion should be illegal under all circumstances, while 29% believe abortion should be legal under all circumstances. For most Americans, abortion should not be just another form of birth control. Choosing life is always the more hopeful alternative.
Unsurprisingly, Americans are horrified by the graphic, cavalier discussions of abortion procedures in terms of financial compensation for the fetal specimens.
Medical advancements have accentuated the human qualities of fetuses. We now can better gauge the brain activity, vital organ development, and nerve sensory abilities of the unborn. A twenty-week-old unborn baby feels pain. In the abortion culture, there is no difference between ending that unborn child’s life and an abortion of a “lumps of cells” in the first four weeks of pregnancy, as pro-abortionists callously describe them.
The same ultrasound technology that enables an expectant mother and father to see their child develop in the womb is the same technology that enables abortion doctors to strategically place the forceps so as not to crush the fetal parts for sale. From Dr. Nucatola, “We’ve been very good at getting heart, lung, liver — so I’m not gonna crush that part. I’m going to basically crush below. I’m going to crush above, and I’m gonna see if I can get it all intact.”
